How did I get  here?

Hello there, my name is Michala. I am a daughter, sister, wife, homeschool mom, birth educator, and certified doula. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Chris, for 19 years and we have four children; three daughters ages 13, 16, & 17 and a son who is 11. Being the oldest of 7 children myself, I knew I wanted to work with children at a young age. When attending college, I studied in the degree of Family Consumer Sciences and received a BA in Child Development at College of the Ozarks. I started out as a preschool teacher with a love for teaching and watching children grow physically, mentally, and emotionally. Over the past decade, I have also worked as a supervisor at a Child Development Center, various children's volunteer positions within my church and tutor a class for my homeschool community group. During this time, while also starting a family of my own, I grew to have a passion, not only for children but for the mothers who carried them. My love for birth and doulaship began as I experienced the 4 unique Birth Stories of my children and then the experiences of my close family and friends. I decided to further my education because I truly want every mom to have the support and education they need for bringing their little miracles into the world. So in the last few years, I have embarked on a journey of supporting mommas and their families emotionally, physically and prayerfully through their unique story of pregnancy and birth as a doula and birth educator. This has become a dream come true! I look forward to coming alongside you; supporting you and your family in your unique birth story!

I took Michala’s birthing class when I was 30 weeks pregnant with my son. I then had her as my doula when I went into labor at 1 day shy of 40 weeks. My experience with her was wonderful! At her birthing class, I learned a few techniques of helping with labor pains and I knew that when it came time for me to have my baby I knew I was going to need to use those techniques. I told Michala that I was having a lot of back pain and that most likely I will have back labor. I was oh so very right and it was very painful!! She knew exactly what to do and she coached me through it all. She gave tips to my husband and family members that were in the room with me to help me keep calm and not be tense during my contractions and it helped a lot. A few things she did to help me through my contractions were applying ice to my lower back, squeezing my hips, suggesting different positions I could sit or lay, and telling me to breathe with my contractions (which helped tremendously!). One of the biggest things I do with my daily life is communicating my feelings and she understood that! For example; my son was faced up and needed to turn so they had me on my left side and I was able to tell her exactly what I was feeling and she was right there by my side telling me that everything I was telling her was great and it was all good progress. She is a wonderful, kind-hearted, understanding, and sweet lady!! I will definitely be using her again as my doula for my other future kids!!
